It develops in the stomach or small intestine. Peptic ulcers are typically caused to those who habitually consumes NSAIDs or carries the stomach bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. Pylori).

Causes of Peptic Ulcer

Those factors that causes peptic ulcers are as follows.

  • Infection with H. Pylori bacteria: The small intestine or stomach lining might get infected with H. pylori. This accelerated the inflammatory process and the emergence of ulcers.
  • Use of NSAIDs: Those who use NSAIDs for long time, their stomach lining gets irritate and increase the risk of developing ulcers. (Ibuprofen, Aspirin etc).
  • Smoking: Smoking might make peptic ulcer symptoms worse and make it take longer to recover.
  • Excessive alcohol consumption: Drinking too much alcohol can irritate the stomach inner lining.
  • Stress: Although stress does not directly cause ulcers. But it can increase the risk of developing them by increasing stomach acid production and delaying the healing process.

  • Vomiting blood or having blood in the stool: These are signs of severe bleeding and require immediate medical attention.

If you experience any of above mentioned symptoms then you should see your doctor . Because untreated peptic ulcers can lead to serious complications.

Complications of Untreated Peptic Ulcer

Untreated peptic ulcers can lead to several serious complications. For instance;

  • Internal bleeding: Internal bleeding can result from a peptic ulcer that has eroded through blood vessels in the duodenum or stomach. This may result feeling weak or dizzy as well as vomiting blood and passing tarry or black stools.
  • Perforation: Untreated peptic ulcer can create a hole in the wall of the stomach or duodenum. Stomach acid and food to leak into the abdominal cavity. This may result in a severe infection. This infection is called peritonitis. It could be life-threatening if not treated promptly.
  • Obstruction: This condition occurs due to the swelling and scarring that a peptic ulcer may bring on in the stomach or duodenum. This causes nausea, vomiting, and excruciating stomach discomfort.
  • Cancer: Long time untreated peptic ulcers can sometimes develop into stomach or duodenal cancer.

Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent these serious complications.

Treatment of Peptic Ulcer

All people with peptic ulcer disease should get H. pylori removed. Most duodenal ulcers are cured with eradication, which also significantly reduces the risk of recurrent bleeding. Anti-secretory non-eradicating medication is less successful than treatment for H. pylori infection. Homeopathy offers a variety of potent treatments that not only eliminate H. Pylori but also aid in preventing peptic ulcer recurrence. This all-encompassing homoeopathic treatment restores the normal balance between aggressive factors and mucosal protection/repair, which ultimately cures the peptic ulcer disease.
